Caldera Basin Golf Club

Designer: Jeremy Holme

Course Description:

Carved out of the basin of an extinct tropical volcano we find an this par 72 course. Lots of elevation changes and challenges on this one and one very hard hole (need to play it to find out which one!). Tried to make it fair and a low score is very possible if you play well. Enjoy!

Member Reviews:

Very beautiful course! One of the best Tropical based courses I've played yet!

Pros:
  • fantastic/realistic course layout
  • planting was really looking great
  • nicely designed greens (with mostly fair pin positions)
  • lots of gimmicks (like stairs, bridges, etc.) where placed nicely throughout the course
  • the surrounding area looks absolutely superb

Cons:
  • course play very short (reachable Par5's, Par4's with less than 400y)
  • personally, I'm not a big fan of those huge elevation changes (but that's probably just me)

Personal rating: 8/10

Most courses designed in the Tropical theme are island or coastal based, so it's nice to see a course winding through mountainous jungle terrain. I have to point out that behind the 3rd green there is a large hand-made mountain, and it's one of the better ones I have seen in the game, outstanding work. There is a wealth of attention to detail throughout the course, as well. The holes are relatively short, but twist and turn through hills and around trees. It makes elevation and wind calculation very important, and it can be a fun and interesting round. The back 9 starts to push the envelope a bit, though, and there were a handful of holes that felt over the top. The 12th in particular was a strange one with the tree planted in front of the tee.

Despite a stretch of holes that I felt were questionable, the overall experience of the round was quite enjoyable and should be played by all interested in a course that toes the line between reality and fantasy.
