Course Description:

Welcome to Old Oakwood Golf Club. This course is influenced by designs from 1900 - 1940 in the eastern United States. Courses from this era are sometimes quirky in regards to blind shots, but I tried to keep them at a minimum. The course does not feature retaining walls or much gardening, as it is relies on its natural beauty to keep the simplicity of early American golf alive. The 1st and 18th holes run parallel, separated by 3 large oaks (hence the name) with a majestic clubhouse set in their background. This version is set to medium firmness, and pin placements are quite accessible. I'll also release a tournament version, which will take advantage of OOCC's large segmented green complexes and unused tee boxes. This course boasts unique green shapes and severe slopes around bunkers. Shot shaping from the tee is necessary, especially on holes 2, 7, 11, 16 and 18. My personal favorite stretch of holes, 11-14 meander around a stream and finish with a reachable par 5. Enjoy!

Rural Potential

Pete has built himself an interesting course here in the sense that it seems a little too generated on one side but on the other you see flashes of brilliance. The course has shots that make you think and the over aggressive golfer will find himself in some tough spots as I did on the front 9 going out at one over through nine but a smarter approach on the back nine netted me a -7 finish. So this course seemed a little rushed in the since it lacks that real feel the great designers give a course but keep up the work Pete because I enjoyed it and I know with what I saw here you will build wonderful courses to come. Also would like to note I am a fan of square greens its cool and unique. Final rating here is a 3.5

A River Runs Through It.

This course makes me want to go watch "A river runs through it" again. What a wonderful and beautiful Old course. As the author suggest this course has the exact feel he describes. It is classic in it's design and play. Elegant in it's simplicity. A perfect example that you do not need a lot of frills to make a quality golf course. Sometimes the course itself is all the beauty you need.

The first few holes trick you into thinking this a plain Jane kind of course, but then you start to realize as your playing through the next few holes that this is a special place you find yourself in. By the time you get to the very well done down and back 13 and 14 you KNOW you are in a special place and it just stays interesting from there on. The creek winding through the back 9 is done fabulously, just perfection. The bunker design and green layouts are all done very old classic style with more of a "boxy" feel.

As far as how it plays. Well it is just a wonderfully thought out course. Plenty of risk/reward from the tee box. Well placed Bunkers, perfectly done fairways with rolling hills and a very natural feel. Greens are not at PGA level I do not believe. They are big but fairly flat with a few approaching a Champions A difficulty.

All in all I definitely approve this course. I believe it is also definitely Tour Worthy in its quality. This would make a great course for web.com or Champions Tour. I do not believe it is PGA simply due to the simplicity of the greens. This is a quality course.
