This course is a wonderful rendition of a traditional Scotinsh highland course. Lots of undulation and some real menacing bunkers. A real thinking man's course here. Finding the small fairway landing areas took some study of the terrain and would often have to play a tricky bounce through the rough to get it to stick in the short grass.
The green, which were frequently placed on a peninsula jutting out into the drink, had lots of contours, and were very rewarding if you hit in the right area and let the ball work towards the flag. There were some real harrowing long carries over water. I encountered several nasty putts, even short ones, as pins were generally on some hills and werent many straight in putts to be found. (None were close to unfair.)
Visually, the course was outstanding. Just enough planting was done to keep it interesting. Not overdone in anyway, but just had a real nice appearance. I also liked the beautiful emulation of 17 at the Old Course, with a "hotel" becoming part of the course that required playing around, and even featured a wall that ran along the right side of the fairway.
Great course! Of the 3 new themes, I think the designers as a whole have done some amazing work with the Highland theme. It's gonna be tough to choose when they gotta decide which of them should be used for events. This one here is a mighty contender, that I'd love to see host an event.
