In an effort to cope with the harsh conditions that life threw at them, Americans resorted to games as a means of relief. One of those games was golf. Although, modern country clubs did not exist in America until the late 1800’s, versions of the game were being played as early as 1650. Golf courses were few and far between and weren’t established in official capacity in the US until the early 20th century. Remanent (Adj: remaining, left behind) is one of those early courses. Situated in a valley that was once a giant lake but has mostly dried up over time due to land shifts and droughts. A small settlement was established adjacent to the course, it’s occupants yearning for any break in the dissonant, grinding reality of life in 1824.
