The newest addition at St Andrews, The Castle Course opened in 2008 becoming the seventh course at the Home of Golf. Laid out on a clifftop overlooking St Andrews it offers spectacular views over the town and out into the Firth of Forth. Designed by David McLay Kidd (of Brandon Dunes fame), with lead shaper Mick McShane deserving enormous credit for turning featureless farmland into a spectacular rolling golfing dreamscape much as he did at nearby Kingsbarns. My version features the green, blue and black tees as on the scorecard, with additional white tees placed on the back championship tee boxes intended for play if the course hosts any tournaments. For the view I spent a huge amount of time recreating the town and the ruins of both St Andrews Cathedral (resting place of both Old and Young Tom Morris) and St Andrews Castle on the cliffs. Play this with a very high wind for extra authenticity and above all bring your putting boots for the famously controversial greens!
